SEOUL, South Korea – Kia has issued a recall for thousands of vehicles due to two software defects that could potentially increase the risk of accidents.

Kia has issued a recall for two vehicle models over fears two software defects may increase the risk of an accident.

More than 10,000 vehicles including the CV EV6 from 2021 to 2024 and the MQ4 PE Sorento from 2023 and 2024 are potentially impacted.

The CV EV6 is being recalled due to the integrated charging control unit (ICCU), which may develop an internal fault causing a warning light to illuminate on the instrument cluster and the 12 Volt battery to stop charging.

The recall affects the following models:

  • Kia EV6: Model years 2021-2024
  • Kia Sorento: Model years 2023-2024

The first defect involves the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) in the EV6. This unit may develop an internal fault, causing a warning light to illuminate on the instrument cluster and potentially leading to a loss of drive power.

The second defect, affecting certain Sorento models, involves a software issue that could interfere with the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. The ESC system helps drivers maintain control of the vehicle during sudden maneuvers.

Kia will notify affected owners by mail in December and January. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the ICCU and a fuse if necessary. Software updates will also be performed to address both defects.

Kia urges all affected owners to schedule service appointments with their local Kia dealer as soon as they receive the recall notification.

This recall highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and software updates to ensure vehicle safety.

“This could result in a loss of motive power,” the recall notice said.

“A loss of motive power may occur if the warning lights are ignored which could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

“Owners of affected vehicles should immediately contact their preferred Kia dealer to schedule an appointment to have the ICCU inspected and replaced if required.
